With the increasing number of studies going on around CBD, people across the globe are wondering whether this cannabinoid compound could help with their health problems. Most studies are showing positive results and today CBD is being used in the treatment of anxiety, stress, arthritis, insomnia, epilepsy, skin problems, etc. One prevalent question that is going around CBD is whether it could stimulate your appetite.
Does CBD Make You Hungry?
Through various studies, we now know that CBD could interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system. Your reproductive system, brain, gut, and central nervous system all have cannabinoid receptors. The cannabinoid compounds, including CBD and THC, could interact with these cannabinoid receptors, mainly CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors.
THC acts by binding with the CB1 receptors present in the brain, which increases your hunger by simulating ghrelin, also known as the “hunger hormone,” and changes the brain signals that warn you when you’re full. CBD, unlike THC, engages with CB2 receptors, which help your endocannabinoid system to be more balanced. Even though these receptors are present in the gut, CBD may not stimulate ghrelin production like THC, so it does not lead to a rise in hunger.

CBD And Appetite
CBD is capable of influencing serotonin production by activating the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor when it is introduced into the body. The gut produces 90% of serotonin, which is responsible for important bodily functions, including digestion, eating, and sleeping. Elevated serotonin levels have been shown to suppress appetite in many recent studies. While CBD does not involve directly in the reduction or increase in appetite, it can affect other hormones that do.
The CBD mainly interacts with the CB2 cannabinoid receptors of the endocannabinoid system. CB2 cannabinoid receptors are also found in the gut. Since the endocannabinoid system’s primary function is to promote an atmosphere in which internal balance can be ensured, it may be capable of restoring normal appetite in instances of lost appetite.
CBD’s Effect On Metabolism
CBD’s interaction with the endocannabinoid system appears to have metabolic implications, according to preliminary research. CBD is capable of interacting with CB2 receptors that regulate metabolism and intake of food, according to an animal study into its effects on feeding behavior. CBD also has an effect on fat cell conversion, according to another study. Fat browning is a process that transforms white fat cells, which are used for insulation and energy, into brown fat cells, which burn calories and produce heat.
