The Bond Fire, which broke out on Dec. 2, has burned 7,375 acres in the Silverado Canyon near Irvine. The blaze also destroyed more than 30 structures and caused damage to several other structures.

On Monday, Dec. 7, Cal Fire reported that crews have established a 60 percent containment area. A Red Flag Warning was issued on Monday, Dec. 7, by the National Weather Service, that will go into effect through Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 10:00 p.m.

“A Red Flag Warning is issued for weather events which may result in extreme fire behavior that will occur within 24 hours. A Fire Weather Watch is issued when weather conditions could exist in the next 12-72 hours,” according to the Cal Fire Website.

In a Fire Incident report posted on Twitter, Cal Fire explained that there is still a threat to the area, considering weather conditions, along with the Red Flag Warning.

“Overnight, firefighters continue to construct fire lines and control the fire area. Fire lines are holding and today crews will work to further improve containment and maintain patrols. There is still potential in some areas for a strong wind event to spread the fire and threaten adjacent communities. Today, moderate Santa Ana winds are expected, dry conditions will continue and humidity will be low. A Red Flag warning remains in effect for the area through Tuesday evening. Damage assessment teams have completed a systematic survey of the fire area.”

The Cal Fire website lists the Bond Fire’s structure damage and destruction overall in terms of “residential, commercial and other.” There was a total of 21 structures damaged, along with a total of 31 structures destroyed, according to the Cal Fire website.

The Williams Canyon area of Silverado Canyon suffered significant damage, and lost more than a quarter of its 12 residential structures. Residents of the Williams Canyon region have created a GoFundMe page to help residents rebuild their lives.

While there are no civilian injuries reported, Cal Fire reported two firefighters were injured, but have since received medical care and are in non-life threatening, stable condition.

The Bond Fire began after flames from a structure fire reached dry vegetation late on Dec. 1. By the following morning, the Orange County Fire Authority has issued mandatory evacuations for several communities in Irvine, including Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills west of El Toro and North of 241 Toll Road.

As of Friday, Dec. 4, the Orange County Fire Authority reported the use of nearly one dozen aircraft, and 500 firefighters battling the blaze. By Monday, Dec. 7, crews were able to increase containment on the Bond Fire by 50 percent from Friday, Dec. 4.
